X-Champions Hero Roster - the Justice Squad (and the regular NPCs as they appear)

There's now a base starting...

Hamlet Laughton, Rodin, T'suara

From the early days (Rodin sheet, Laughton sheet):

Hard-boiled detective - or should we say just plain hard (please, don't interpret this, take it at face value...)?  This noir-ish detective has the unusual ability to transform himself or someone else into a living statue.  As senior partner in Laughton and Davis Detective Agency (now a franchise of the national Blue Moon detective corporation) he's a savvy, rough-and-tumble, street-level genius sleuth, mentoring Davis.  He can't resist, trouble, though, and it always finds him, no matter how intelligent he may be.  Perhaps this is related to his unrelenting, uncompromising pursuit of the truth.  And when the going gets tough, Hamlet gets stoned.  That is, he turns to his stone statue alter-ego, Rodin, a super-dense immobile being that is self-aware but unable to move or speak in any way.  As Rodin he's virtually invulnerable to most normal attacks.  But, as Laughton, he can instead turn one other being into stone, rendering it just as indestructible though lacking in self-awareness.

As of mid-September, 2002:

Hamlet has discovered he is really an alien being named T'suara, an ethereal being manifesting only as points of light.  He still does not know anything about that background, though.  He's become the world's greatest detective and has spun a wide web of intrigue and conspiracy.

Neumann

As of mid-September, 2002:

Neumann, introduced in issue 20, is a long-buried robot with a mysterious past.  His build is surprisingly archaic and clunky - but he is nuclear-powered!  He can extend his parts great lengths, release cables that entangle, zap with electrical bolts, project holograms, vent steam blasts, and even perform a vast variety of cleansing and domestic functions.  Neumann is programmed to assist, and out of his eagerness to help is known as one of those few supers who still ceaselessly rescues cats from trees and helps little old ladies cross the street.  He's been involved in the Boy Scouts, but he's also assisted at a higher level, working with the various New Brotherhoods cells to have a positive influence.  Occasionally, Neumann has black-outs or malfunctions.  Gere-luce is still working with him to isolate the sources of problems no doubt attributable to old design and laying dormant for some 50 years.

Nexus Master of Dimensions, the Troll, Eliot Sihn

From the early days:

Eliot SIhn, when in action the Troll, is married to the beautiful Mermaid (whom he met in Professor Xaviers' New School for the Gifted).  While he normally passes as a quite handsome Chinese man, he transforms in action to the hideous Troll.  As Eliot, he's a brilliant research scientist for Stark Industries (SI), studying the mutant condition, focusing on biochemicistry and genetics.  He's also an excellent surgeon.  While he pursues science and truth as the Knights of the Round Table did the Holy Grail, his association with SI and their governmental contractors has brought him and his wife into the adventuring lifestyle, meeting other mutants and fighting evil.  And in that capacity his Troll abilities come to the fore with frightening efficiency as he can detach parts of his body at will, while they continue to function.  In battle he's a horrifying dynamo, powerful with his great strength.

As of mid-September, 2002:

After the Troll encountered the Necronomicon, things got hairy and culminated in his being torn asunder and rebuilding himself into Nexus, shortly to be Master of Dimensions.  Eliot/the Troll's mighty intelligence along with the knowledge of the Necronomicon had enabled him to break through into metaphysical interdimensional science  science (magic, to mere mortals).  Having grown up his family in another dimension and seen to Aela's safety, he has made it his priority to be a solid "white hat" good guy.

Sammy the Slime

From the early days:

First known to our heroes as "Elvis Presley", this slimy shape-shifter can assume the appearance and often the abilities of any form.  Although he's pictured in these documents as a Presley look-alike (er, very look-alike), if you don't like Elvis Sammy will gladly appear as whatever you do like.  This extremely affable, rather naive, and heroically principled being would like you to be his friend.  Like the early Odo of Star Trek:  Deep Space Nine, Sammy is the only being of his kind that he knows, and he doesn't know where he really comes from.  But he's pursued by the evil ABC (Atomic, Bacterial, Chemical) Corporation, the chief competitor to Stark Industries.  They had imprisoned him for some time and then lost him in an accidental thaw.  Since his coming into awareness, Sammy has found Detroit a hospitable home, as he loves to eat any sort of organic material - Detroit's considerable garbage heaps make Sammy a happy slime.  Sammy first appears in issue #2.

As of mid-September, 2002:

Sammy has a mate, Jane, another being like himself.  They've even met the alien race they're from.  And Sammy is an entertainer of great renown and now a budding reporter.  He's grown up quite a bit, with he and Jane now owning their own home.

Spectrum, Suzanne Palmer

From the early days:

Suzanne Palmer is the beautiful and powerful mentalist known as Spectrum.  She has a legal background but her dark alter ego has manifested itself on occasion and uses her mental powers to "fix" problems.  As a believer in the system and a principled woman, she struggles to stop this other side and now she fights crime with the Justice Squad.  She's capable of amazing feats, such as levitating and tossing heavy objects (such as Rodin, above), controlling men's minds, and knocking villains out via mental blasts of energy.  In fact, with her ability to seek out a mind in a wide radius around her, she need not even be nearby to reach out and touch someone.  Spectrum first appears in issue #6.

As of mid-September, 2002:

Suzanne has married Nightshade of the Outsiders, and lives part-time in New York as well as Detroit.  Having associated with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Scooby Gang, she's befriended Willow, who helped Suzanne through possession.  And Suzanne has learned mental magic abilities.

Retired or Inactive Members:

The Captain, Marty Davis

From the early days:

Detroit may be a city of grime and grit, of good guys who act like bad guys, of monsters and grotesque parodies of humanity.  But one hero stands above all others as the city's knight in shining armor, The Captain.  While this Superman-like good guy, with his flashy ear-to-ear smile and chivalrous morality, may seem a bit old-fashioned, there's nothing old-fashioned in his mighty blows.  As eager to meet the press as the next villain, The Captain is one of the most presentable and outgoing of our group.  However, as Marty Davis, junior partner in Laughton and Davis Detective Agency (now a franchise of the national Blue Moon detective corporation), he's an unsteady and slightly ungainly fellow.  His friends know he's both, but The Captain and Marty Davis act as two separate beings, dissociating themselves to protect their respective identities.

Over time The Captain communed with the spirit of Superman, and then discovered he himself in fact came from another planet as a child and has powers way beyond what he ever thought.  Quickly The Captain determined his destiny was to "lead mankind" and he left the Justice Squad to pursue a lofty destiny...  You can see his adventures from issue #1 through issue #12.

As of mid-September, 2002 (NPC):

The Captain is a major government super and a staunch enemy of Magneto.  He's grown an arrogant streak underlying his genial demeanor.  But he's also grown immensely more powerful.

Steely Danelle

From the early days:

Seen only in issue 27, Steely Danelle was a receptionist who suddenly mutated.  She came upon the Justice Squad early on, as when she mutated they came upon the scene.  Upon returning to work, she found she had no job, given her new, strange appearance, and heavy-handedness resulting in initial clumsiness and breaking things.  Enraged, she stormed off and again encountered the Justice Squad, resulting in teaming up for them for a brief time against the Kingpin.  Emotional but pragmatic, Steely Danelle decided the Justice Squad were in too much danger and went off on her own to establish her new life as a mutant.   She's a super-tough lady, a massively dense body and a walloping punch.

As of mid-September, 2002:

Still known to be around and active but on the low-key end of things.

Dice

From the early days:

Seen to date only in issues 24 and 28, Dice is extremely lucky.  A tireless do-gooder who involves himself anytime someone is in trouble, he falls into situations that he can always seem to manage, despite lacking overt super-powers.  But his freak mutant luck is what saves him, allowing him to turn the tide in the most dire circumstances.  From a good, even well-off, home, Dice lives in humble circumstances, always finding a way to get by.  He has come across the Justice Squad a couple times, helping them against Magneto and Kingpin, holding his own with those heavy-hitters around.  On the battleground, he's a wildcard as anything can happen.

As of mid-September, 2002:

Sammy has a mate, Jane, another being like himself.  They've even met the alien race they're from.  And Sammy is an entertainer of great renown and now a budding reporter.  He's grown up quite a bit, with he and Jane now owning their own home.

the Mermaid, Ayla Oceanchild

From the early days:

Mistress of the water and all things oceanic,  the Mermaid can direct the very fabric of water.  This beautiful super-heroine knows very little of her past but is quite sure of her present.  She's wedded to the Troll (whom she met at Professor Xavier's New School for the Gifted) in a sort of beauty and the beast relationship.  And while she may be beautiful and a "water sign", she's a dangerous impetuous hurricane of force.  Ever seen water used to sandblast a building?  You get the picture!  But that's not all - as fluid as water she can slither through the pipes of Detroit; as a manipulator of water she can cause it to appear and shroud herself in a dense mist - or slow the very fluid running through someone's veins; and as one who can sense water in any form, she sees what others cannot.  Our heroine is ready to snap into action at a moment's notice and often takes her opponents by surprise as her demeanor changes from calm to tempestuous.  In her day-to-day life Ayla Oceanfoot is a veterinarian working between the local aquarium and zoo on mutant-ridden Belle Isle.

When Ayla became pregnant she decided to take a break from endangering herself in crime-fighting; you can see her adventures from issue #1 through issue #7.

As of mid-September, 2002 (NPC):

Ayla's family has grown up, thanks to Nexus' inter-dimensional skills bringing them to a safe place to raise their family.  She's hanging out on occasion with the X-Men, while her and Eliot's home is well-hidden from the world.  She knows who her parents are and sees her father, Namor, on a fairly regular basis, while only rarely does she see her mother, a mermaid sort of being in hiding from her father.

Sprite, Olaf Ericsson

From the early days:

Sprite is a feisty tiny flying ball of energy capable of literally exploding when struck with enough damage!  He is capable of breaking down matter into energy, a process he's learning to refine but occasionally gets the better of him.  In "regular" life, he's Olaf Ericsson, a professional-caliber athlete who, due to an injury in his college days, now is a physical fitness instructor and mentor.  He's quite a bundle; unlike some of the darker members of the Justice Squad, Sprite is not merely confident and strident, but outgoing and sociable.  His infectious enthusiasm gets him into trouble as well as ingratiates him with the Justice Squad.  Sprite appears in issue #15, .

As of mid-September, 2002 (NPC):

Sprite has not been seen since a probably-successful murder attempt on him by Kingpin.  Rumors abound that he just went into hiding or retired, though, or may be operating under another name or secretly.
