BACKGROUND
From wikipedia: "Before the series, he had served in the US Navy. At the series beginning, Jack was found in Janet Wood and Chrissy Snow's shower on the morning after a party they threw, explaining "I had a friend who knew one of the gate-crashers." He previously lived at the YMCA, and needed a place to stay. Janet reasoned with the landlord, Stanley Roper, and he agreed that Jack could stay since Janet told him he was gay. Jack was in reality very straight and quite interested in women, so the comedy stemming from having to "play gay" provided much of the story for the sitcom. He had an older brother who appeared in one episode-Jack felt perpetually in his shadow when they were children.

Jack first attended a local technical college for a degree in culinary arts, and held down odd jobs in his spare time. After completion of his cooking degree, Jack found full-time work as a chef, and eventually, he opened his own restaurant, Jack's Bistro."
PERSONALITY
From threescompany.com: "Jack, the man of the house, is a kid at heart. A handsome, yet lovable ladies-man, Jack enjoys living with two girls but never takes himself too seriously." Tripper tends to be unassuming, except when a beautiful female is around.
QUOTE
"Lordy, Lordy, Lordy!"
POWERS/TACTICS
Few characters are so balanced between strong points and disadvantages! When Jack Tripper has unluck, falling into some bad situation or completely mishearing something, he may also elect to roll his Luck, to have something else happen that gets him by. He also is quite clumsy, but has a high ability to land on his feet or at least without sustaining real damage (using Breakfall). Note also that Jack's persuasion is boosted when he uses outrageous lies, only.
